Oh, I can't wait to read it. Yeah, she did an artist residency there. Definitely no nonsense. A little intimidating for me. But boy oh boy, what a treat! xo
This is an excellent and inspiring story. My favorite part is your conclusion: "I came away from that day awfully proud that I dared to be great, that I felt my fear, my shame, and then jumped in and did it anyway. For a small part of one afternoon in a lazy Catskills town, I was a member of Twyla Tharp’s dance company." It is wonderful how many years before, you unsuccessfully attempted to be seen in her choreography for the movie Hair but did not give up on your dream. Joy happens on its own schedule. Thank goodness for small towns...
I love your comment, "Joy happens on its own schedule." Lots of things do, don't they. I had a joyful day in the park, too, at the Hair shoot. But yes, thank goodness for small towns for so many reasons. Thanks, Douglas! xo
I loved reading this, Nan! Your writing is so easy to fall right into. And hooray for Twyla Tharp... my maiden name is Tharp, and I always wanted to discover that she was my long lost aunt or something. 😆 Keep dancing- you've got it, and your wardrobe choices were spot-on!
Thanks, Kendall! Oh, I would grab that last name right back, and wear it proudly. You both have unusual first names, so who knows? Maybe there is a connection! xo
This is fabulous! And a coincidence… I wrote about Twyla Tharp coming to the Catskills to teach, work, and perform. Here’s the link: https://hudsonvalleyone.com/2016/04/14/choreographer-twyla-tharp-is-building-new-dances-in-tannersville/. She was intense to interview! No nonsense! Thanks for sharing this, Nan.
